Kick Negative Voices using Affirmations

Balance Me Happy Wellness Program

Everyone has that little voice within themselves that constantly tells them when they can or cannot do something.

This little voice can put you down and can say the most hurtful things!

Those little voices can be negative and they can be extremely damaging to your self-confidence and overall well-being. A way to kick Negative Voices to the curb is using Affirmations!

As an adult I have generally learnt to tell them to go away but sometimes it isn’t that easy. What happens if you are a child, I can’t imagine how difficult it can be. This article is very relevant for my family right now, as I have an 8-year-old girl who is facing the judgments of her school peers on a daily basis. This is where I believe using Positive affirmations can make a major difference in how we all, but especially children can get through the harder times in life.

What are Affirmations?

Positive affirmations are essentially positive thoughts or statements about some outcome that you wish to see manifest in your life. The daily repetition of these affirmations has the power to impress the subconscious mind and trigger it into positive action, thereby transforming your habits, behavior, mental attitudes and reactions. Allowing us to kick those negative voices to the curb!

Phase One: Start Kicking those Negative Voices

The very first thing you need to look at before creating your own personalized affirmations is to visualize your goal. Be specific and be sure to put in all the details - the outcome, the behaviors, attitudes, and traits you would like to see yourself develop in order to get there. Visualisation is key – if you want to feel better about yourself, you need to visualize yourself and say your affirmation frequently during the day and really mean it. A study in 2019  suggests using affirmations activates the reward centers of the brain which respond to pleasurable experiences, such as eating your favorite food.

Phase Two : How to Create an Affirmation

Make sure to only use positive words and phrases when creating your personal affirmations , for example if you need to do something challenge, don’t use the phrases “this is going to be hard” or “I can’t do this”; instead say “I’ve got this!”. Also, use the present tense because by doing so, you say things as if they are already true, and not as if you would like them to be true.

The sceptic in you could ask: can affirmations really make a difference in my life? Listen to what your inner voice is telling yourself day after day. Is it the voice of Mr. Negative or Mr. Positive? Few people are as optimistic or positive as they should be. If Mr. Negative is more dominant than Mr. Positive, positive affirmations could be the way to reprogram your thinking and vanquish the negative patterns that have been holding you back.

Phase Three: Repeat, Repeat and Repeat again

The repetition of positive affirmations helps focus your mind on your aim, automatically building corresponding mental images in the conscious mind, when then affects the subconscious mind. By using this process consciously and intently, you harness the power of your subconscious mind to transform your habits, behavior, mental attitude, and reactins.

The transformative powers of positive affirmations are very real. By repeatedly stating what you want to be true in your life, you mentally and emotionally see and feel it as true, thereby attracting it into your life.

Examples of Affirmations

Some examples of affirmations are as follows but they can be as short or long as you want. Your affirmation can also be a line in a movie. You will probably think it’s silly but when I’m going through a rough patch I use “Just keep swimming” from Finding Dory. Sometimes you just have to keep on going.

  • All the systems of my body are functioning perfectly.
  • My body is infused with the energy of health.
  • I am letting happiness manifest in my life.
  • I deserve to be happy right now.

Conclusion

Affirmations can be extremely powerful. I would recommend setting aside a special time during the day for repeating them to yourself. Write them down or repeat them in your mind wherever you are and whenever you have the time. It is natural for negativity to cloud your mind, especially if your current environment is unfavourable, but persevere, and you will be able to conquer your negative thoughts and doubts.
