Do you have some people in your life who may make you feel bad or have no time for you?

As we get older we have new experiences like travel, marriage, kids, and moving locations. As we have new experiences we shape, grow, and change. Sometimes the people around us either don’t change or they change in different ways. Sometimes they are not good for us or we simply grow apart. You may know some people like this.

A friend cleanse can occur at any time of the year but is commonly done at the start of the year as a new years resolution.

This is a really important topic because we all have toxic friends in our lives, and it's not always easy to figure out what to do with them. In this article, we'll explore 5 reasons you may need to clean up your friendships and make sure that you're only spending time with people who are good for you and make you feel happy 😊

What is a Friend Cleanse?

A friend cleanse is when you identify friends who make you feel good and friends that do not. A healthy friendship is one where both people are able to have a conversation and share things with each other. They also have similar interests, values, and goals. They also care, motivate and help you be the person you want to be.

An unhealthy friendship is one where one person always has to do the talking and the other person never gets a chance to say anything. They could be negative and/or not think your interests are important.  This can lead to feelings of resentment, anger, and unhappiness.

The cleanse occurs when you have identified those friends who you would rather not contact or be around then distance and/or remove them from your life.

The friend cleanse can help you feel better and avoid spending time with people who make you feel bad, while also making time to spend quality time with the positive people in your life who make you feel happy.

    5 Reasons that Show it is Time for a Friend Cleanse

    1. You are no longer interested in the same things.

    One of the most common reasons for ending a friendship is when your interests change and your friend does not follow suit. It can be hard to stay friends with someone who doesn't share the same interests as you anymore because there won't be anything in common between the two of you. For example, if one person likes going out partying on weekends while their friend would rather stay at home, they may grow apart over time because they don't want to spend time together anymore.

      2. Your Relationship has Changed

      Friendships often develop into romantic relationships. If a relationship progresses into something more, the friendship can turn into an awkward situation because it may be difficult for them to spend time together as friends. This is a sign that you should end the friendship.

        3. You Feel Uncomfortable or Stop Liking Your Friend

        Sometimes when your feelings change, it can be difficult to maintain a friendship. If you find yourself feeling uneasy or not liking being around your friend or they make you feel bad about yourself, it is time to end the relationship.

        4. You are not a Priority in their Life

        If you find your friend not returning your texts or phone calls and they are too busy to spend time with you. If this occurs it may indicate you are not important to them anymore and it may be time to end the friendship and find someone who does enjoy your company.

        5. They are not Honest with You

        Checking on your friend's personality is necessary before making a decision. If they're always changing their minds, if they lie constantly, or if they're doing something that makes you uncomfortable, it may be time to end the friendship.

        Note: I would also like to note this can also be carried out on your social media friends. If you find some of your Facebook or Instagram etc friends are posting either too much or posting uncomfortable material, it can be a sign to unfriend and move on.

        Conclusion

        It is also important to note that it is not always easy to stop being friends with people. If you have been friends with someone for a long time, it can be difficult to just cut them off. You might feel like you are betraying them or that they will retaliate against you in some way. However, sometimes friendships do need to end. It may sound weird but it is extremely freeing once you have cleansed a person either from your social or from your life that makes you feel bad or unimportant.

        So it is 2023, is this the year you free yourself from those people who don’t care and make you feel unimportant? Is it time to find friends who support and help you to be a better version of yourself? A new year can mean so many things and overall it can be a do-over! So what will you decide to do this year?
